In my spare time I watch a lot of YouTube videos, but sometimes watching the same creators with the same content over and over can get boring... so I head over to the recommended page. One day I did just that and discovered a video titled "Specialist Reacts to KathleenLights' Skin Care Routine." Well, I like KathleenLights and I like skincare so let's see what it's all about. And then I went down the rabbit hole of videos from specialist Skincare with Hyram and never looked back.
Ever since I started watching his videos, I've learned so much about not only what products he recommends but what is good and bad for you in a product in general. His content has legitimately changed my skin. I type this now as I do a mask from The Ordinary that looks like blood. So I'm sharing my revamped routine today and highly recommending that you check out Hyram's channel (starting with his 2019 favorites where I got all of these product recs from!)
To start off, I wash my face. Now if I'm wearing makeup, I first take some Bioderma* on a reusable cotton pad* to take it off. Then I go in with this face wash as a second cleanse to really make sure I remove everything.
After I wash my face, I pat dry with a towel and then grab another reusable cotton pad to apply this liquid exfoliant. If you're on the fence about it and not sure if it will really make I difference, know that it does. My skin is so much softer and smoother even though it isn't a physical exfoliant. It's a lot gentler on the skin than a physical exfoliant, too, as it doesn't create microtears in the skin.
This serum has replaced my ones from Versed for brightening and clearing my skin. And honestly, the price cannot be beat.
So I use the Paula's Choice exfoliant every day, except for one. Sundays are my day for a little high power exfoliation with this "blood mask" from The Ordinary. No, it's not really blood. It's just a cocktail of AHA and BHA exfoliants that give you a mini peel at home and leave your skin looking soft and glowing the next morning. And again, for that low of a price, how could you say no?
When I first watched Hyram's 2019 favorites video and quickly scribbled down all his product recommendations, I decided to try out the First Aid Beauty Hello FAB Coconut Water Cream ($34) that he mentioned. While it did hydrate my combo skin adequately, it always felt like it was burning slightly when I put it on, so I decided to switch to his other recommendation after I finished the First Aid Beauty moisturizer. A little bit of a higher price tag but I love this moisturizer so much more and it's scientifically backed which I can get behind. A little also goes a long way so the jar of Biossance has lasted me longer already than the First Aid Beauty. In lieu of using an eye cream, I just dab some of this under my eyes to help hydrate that area.
So there's a little rundown of my current skincare routine! Do you see any products you use and love? Are there some new ones you'd like to try out? Let me know in the comments!
