I'm a Sephora junkie. As a point of reference, I became a VIB Rogue member in 2015... meaning I spent $1000 in a calendar year. I just can't help myself. I love trying out new products, so when the new year came around and I decided to subscribe to a beauty box again, I had to pick the one from my favorite retailer. So without further ado, let's unbox my first PLAY! by Sephora!
Like most beauty boxes, PLAY! by Sephora comes with a "playbook" that has all the information about the products inside. This box also comes with a card for 50 free beauty insider points with any purchase which is especially great for those of us who are trying to maintain Rogue status.
The theme of this month's box was "Beauty, Set, Go" and is meant for girls on the go... so basically it's perfect for me. Each box comes with six products—some products come in every box, others are hand picked by a number of options based on the quiz you complete when you initially sign up for the box.
You pay $10/box for sample/travel sizes of each product. This is pretty standard across beauty boxes, so it's up to you whether or not $10 for a bunch of samples is worth it.
The first product in the box this month is the tarte FRXXXTION Stick (1 oz, $22), an exfoliating gel cleanser in a twist-up stick that goes from solid gel to a lather to rid your skin of impurities. It's a quick and easy way to cleanse and exfoliate your face when you're in a rush. The card even suggests leaving it on as a mask for 10 minutes to purify and revitalize your skin. I'm super excited to try out this product. This was a product received by all PLAY! members.
I already know I love this product. The smell, the result, everything. The Ouai Treatment Masque (8 x 0.3 oz treatments, $32) is a hair restoring mask that leaves your hair feeling super smooth and smelling amazing. I love putting this in my hair before I wash it and leaving it in for 30 minutes before I shower. I've also taken Ouai creator Jen Atkin's advice and used this mask during a workout—the heat helps the mask soak into your hair! This was a product received by all PLAY! members.
Tory Burch's new fragrance, Love Relentlessly (3.4 oz/100 mL, $115) is a feminine floral scent with notes of pink pepper, orris root, and patchouli. This fragrance was inspired by Tory Burch's parents and the name comes from a note her dad wrote to her mom. I'm a huge fan of floral scents, and this one smells amazing. I can't wait to wear it! This was chosen for me based on my quiz.
I'll be honest: I'm scared of moisturizers. My skin is naturally pretty oily, so I approach moisturizers with caution. This Youth To The People Kate + Spinach + Hyaluronic Acid Age Prevention Cream (2 oz, $48) is amazing... and I've only used a few times. It leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated and I don't notice a ton of oil later in the day. YTTP is also a 100 percent vegan skincare line and is formulate in California. It's no surprise that this moisturizer is basically a green smoothie for your face because it contains natural ingredients like kale, spinach, and green tea, the main products of a Cali girl's diet. This product was chosen for me based on my quiz.
CLINIQUE makes great lipsticks. Chubby sticks are probably one of my favorite non-liquid lipstick formulas, so I was excited to see their Almost Lipstick in Black Honey (0.07 oz/2 g, $17) in my first box. This sheer lipstick is not nearly as dark as it looks in the tube and is super hydrating as well. This deep, blackened raisin hue is going to be a staple for the rest of winter and well into spring. This was a product received by all PLAY! members.
The final product this month the AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ (1.05 oz, $60). I have yet to try a cushion foundation, and I was excited to see this one in the box! They gave me shades 104 Tan Blush, a light beige for neutral to cool skintones, and 106 Almond Blush, a tan beige for neutral to peachy undertones. My skin has yellow undertones to it and is more on the fair side, so I'm crossing my fingers that one of these shades work for me. This CC cream is also a natural finish, so we'll see if I prefer that over the matte foundations I typically gravitate toward. It also has buildable coverage, so here's to hoping it covers my blemishes. This product was chosen for me based on my quiz.
Overall I was really impressed with my first PLAY! by Sephora box! I'll be testing out all the products over the next couple of weeks, so I'll be sure to post a review once I've been able to try everything out and formulate some opinions.
Have a great week!
Guess what? I'm still obsessed with Gigi Hadid. She is my number one style icon, so here I am doing another look inspired by her amazing style. Gigi was originally spotted wearing this look this past November, and it's still wearable now in the chill of January. Her look totaled over $1000, but I was able to recreate it for much less. Keep scrolling to see my rendition of Gigi's look.
Gigi wore two pieces from her collection with Tommy Hilifiger: the Silver Down Puffer Jacket ($275) and the Roll Neck Sweater ($225). I obviously can't afford a $225 sweater, so I grabbed the Topshop Blouson Sleeve Mock Neck Sweater ($23.99) in a similar cream color. While it doesn't have a chunky knit or a thick turtleneck, it has a similar cropped style to Gigi's making it a great piece to mimic her sweater. Since I also can't afford her puffer jacket, I picked a similar shiny jacket. Topshop's Emily Puffer Jacket ($130) was my (less metallic) alternative, but was still a puffer jacket, so therefore perfect for this recreation.
Gigi wore two-tone jeans for her look, but I grabbed this pair of Gap True Skinny Jeans (similar here) that had a similar tone.
My boots, the 'Max' Block Heel Booties ($150) from Topshop, weren't patent material like Gigi's boots, but again, they had a similar color and style.
Now enjoy the following photo montage:
I hope you enjoyed my second Gigi Hadid look! Let me know whose look I should recreate next!
Have a great weekend!
